The DCAS is a local Charity which aims to improve the lives of people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD), also referred to as autism and Asperger’s syndrome. The Charity is currently being reinvigorated and is now actively seeking to build a new membership. In doing this we would particularly like to hear from parents, siblings or family members of those affected by the condition. Membership of the DCAS is free, without commitment, and everyone enrolled will receive regular email alerts on new initiatives and news via our website.
In time we hope to offer a whole range of services for local people diagnosed with ASDs and their families. Initially the aim will be to provide: training (for family members), access to a parents’ support group, signposting and guest speakers on ASDs and behavioural management.
The DCAS is also in the process of appointing a Management Committee, which will require a commitment to attend about four or five meetings per year. Again, we would particularly welcome participation amongst those who have a family member diagnosed with an ASD – in order that the project is genuinely driven and informed by the needs of those affected.
